Children not accompanied by a Parent/Guarantor

A child will be issued a Temporary Internet pass once without parental consent. Note that a child must know their address in order to have a temporary pass provided. This is so that the form can be sent to the parent informing them that their child has been provided with open internet access.

Staff are expected to communicate to the child that:

  • It is easy to get a library card and if they come back with their parent/guarantor they will be issued a free library card.
  • If they want to use the Internet, a letter will be mailed to their parent/guarantor indicating that they have had open Internet access and that future Internet access requires their own library card.

Complete the Letter to Parent (Form F424).

  • Complete the form and check off the box that the child has had open Internet access.
  • Print the letter.
  • Place the Letter to Parent in an EPL envelope with stamp and addressed to the Parent/Guarantor and put into an EPL branch mail bag.

NOTE: If the child is a non-resident, mail the Letter to Parent along with “Library Card Options Available at EPL”. Link on EPL website: http://www.epl.ca/services/library-card-options

  • Issue a Temporary Patron Card Number generated from Library Online software. (see Temporary Patrons )
