Extending Customers Time on Public Computers FAQs

Extending Customers’ Time FAQs

1.  How many hours total in a day can a customer have on the Public Computers?

  • All customers start out with 60 mintues of time on the Public Computers
  • Staff may extend a customer’s computer time up to 60 minutes at a time, based on how much time the customer indicates they need.
    • Please be generous in providing extensions during slow periods, regardless of the customers' choice of activity while on the computer
  • The opportunity to provide an extension will be contingent on the availability of computers within the service point. The primary concern with providing extensions is that public PCs would then be unavailable for other customers
  • If the computers are busy and you cannot provide an extnesion on the customer's card, offer to book a computer for them on another day

NOTE: Customer access to the Catalogue stations is unlimited. Time on the catalogue stations does not affect allotted internet time.

2.  Why only 60 mintues per customer to start?

  • Computer access is one of the library's most popular services.  In order to meet demand, we provide each cardholder with 1 hour of computer time per day.
  • By allowing every cardholder an hour of computer time daily, we are able to provide as many people as possible with an opportunity to enjoy this resource.
