Cataloguing

Physical Processing

  • All Literacy material, whether print or AV, receives an International Literacy symbol label on the spine which corresponds to the level of the content as described in a 500 note in the bibliographic record (see Print Materials, Literacy Item entry & Processing)

Audiobooks

  • Repackage audiobooks with accompanying material using a plastic case to accommodate all parts of the set (i.e., disc(s) and booklet(s))
  • Affix the machine-readable barcode vertically on the right-hand side of the sleeve approximately at the mid-point
  • Contents label is used when the item contains more than 1 disc or contains any loose material of more than 4 p. and will be affixed below the barcode (same orientation as barcode)
  • Affix contents label under the barcode (same orientation). Avoid covering information.
  • Affix an RFID book tag to the inside (i.e. back side) of the sleeve near the spine and close to the bottom edge of the spine, or when the sleeve is not removable, affix the tag near the spine, at the bottom edge of the back of the container, and affix tape over it.
  • Affix a “donut” label with the last 9 digits of the barcode written on it to each disc
  • Affix the eye-readable barcode to the upper right-hand of the booklet (if present)
  • Affix call number label to spine of sleeve, at bottom.
  • Affix an Oversize label above the spine label if an audiobook item meets the oversize criteria (see Oversize)

Books with Accompanying Discs

  • Affix a contents label near the barcode identifying all parts of the set when the item contains disc(s) or any loose material of more than 4 p. and will be affixed below the barcode (same orientation as barcode)

Multipart Sets

  • Repackage items with accompanying material or a multi-part set using a plastic case to fit all parts of the set (i.e., book(s), disc(s) and booklet(s))
  • Cardboard retail packaging may be flattened, trimmed and labeled for use as cover art if it fits inside the case sleeve; a high-quality colour photocopy of the packaging may be substituted as needed
  • Affix the machine-readable barcode vertically on the right-hand side of the sleeve approximately at the mid-point
  • Contents label is used when the item contains more than 1 disc or contains any loose material of more than 4 p. and will be affixed below the barcode (same orientation as barcode)
  • Affix contents label under the barcode (same orientation). Avoid covering information.

  • Larger sets may be repackaged in Unikeep binder VCB (10 5/8" x 11 5/8" x 1 1/2" - holds 80 discs)
